Brief biography:

I am Associate Professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature in the Department of German, Russian and Asian Languages and Literatures at Tufts University, where I am the director of the Arabic program. I completed a PhD Columbia University, awarded jointly in Comparative Literature and Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures, and held prior appointments at Brown University and the University of Edinburgh, teaching comparative literature, Arabic and Persian literatures, and postcolonial and world cinema courses.
Along with my colleagues, Kris Manjapra and Lisa Lowe, I am a co-founder of Tufts’ interdisciplinary program on Colonialism Studies, and with them am also a co-initiator of a Mellon-funded Sawyer seminar series on Comparative Global Humanities for 2015-16.
